Asmara to Italy, posted on 16 March 1917 without stamps. "T" postage due handstamp in clack. A 20 centimes Italian postage due was applied and is tied by a Piacenza postmark. Similar "T" markings were used in both Italy and Eritrea during this timeframe, according to Leahy. The application of the postage due in Piacenza is unusual, as postage dues were normally applied at the point of mailing, rather than the point of reception. This is particularly odd because Eritrean postage dues existed at this time and should have been available in the Asmara post office. Couple of opening tears, rather inconsequential, considering the scarcity of this usage. Est $150 |
