| 348 | POSTA MILITARE 12 to Rome, posted without stamps on 24.3.36. "R.R./POSTE/T.S." in circle postage due handstamp, with Rome rec'd on reverse. Typed "Annullo No." has been marked out in blue ink on front, probably prior to mailing. The postage due handstamp is listed in Leahy as being used in Italy. Normally a postage due marking would be applied at the point of origin. This may not have been done, in this case, because of the letter being mailed in a war zone, or the handstamp may have been used in Eritrea, although it is not so listed in Leahy. Interesting and uncommon usage. Est $35 Bid Now Photo |
